The first reason

Gaps between shop and flat above

In Al Salamah, the boundary between the commercial space and the residential floors above is not sealed. A scorpion enters the shop at night through a service door or low window, finds leftover food, then climbs via water pipes and electrical runs. We prioritise these vertical routes before treating anything else, because they are the main passage.

The second reason

Storage under the flat

Many flats sit above small storerooms, and a scorpion will colonise that storage because it is dark, damp and full of forgotten items. Once established there, it attempts to climb into the flat above. We inspect the storeroom first and treat the gaps that connect it downward to the shop entrance and upward to the residential level.

The third reason

Shared building entrance

Shops and flats often share the same stairwell in Al Salamah, and scorpions use it nightly to move between the shop entrance and higher floors. The stairs in this district are often old and the openings around them are wide. We seal what can be sealed and treat the cracks along the full height.

Dust into the wall joints and the dry voids, and a targeted band tight against the foundation and around openings, because the material holds longer on a porous surface than on tile.

Close the ways in and remove the prey

A sweep under the doors, sealing where air-conditioning and drain pipes pass through, mesh over openings, and treatment of the cockroaches and insects it feeds on, so the reason to come in goes with them.

The follow-up visit

A scorpion can sit in its harbourage for weeks without moving, so the first pass does not always reach it. We come back to refresh the perimeter band and check what has appeared since.

Questions about this district

Will a scorpion living in the shop below reach my flat upstairs?

Usually yes. Ground floor shops in Al Salamah are an ideal scorpion environment because they are warm, damp and contain food waste. The scorpion will climb from the shop through openings, cracks and pipe chases. Treating only the shop will not stop it if the flat above is unprotected.

Why did a scorpion appear in my flat when the block is clean?

Cleanliness alone will not keep scorpions out. In Al Salamah, even a spotless flat can be entered by a scorpion from the shop below or from a neighbouring flat, and it will emerge at night to search for a crack or corner to hide in. The openings and age of the building are the real factors.

Is treating the balcony and windows enough to stop them?

No. Scorpions in Al Salamah mostly enter from below, not from above. Cracks in internal walls, gaps around plumbing, spaces behind the kitchen, these are where it hides and enters. We will treat the balcony but the main focus is the interior and the lower junction points.

If you treat the shop below, will that protect my flat above?

It reduces the risk but does not eliminate it. A treated shop will prevent scorpions entering from outside, but those already living in the shared walls will try to climb higher. We recommend treating the flat as well and sealing the penetrations in the party walls.

What is the best time to treat the shop and flat together?

Night time, because the scorpion is active after dark and in the cooler hours. We prefer to treat the shop after it closes and the flat when it is empty. Coordinating both treatments at once gives better results, especially when we also seal the gaps between them.

Can a scorpion return after treatment if we do not seal the openings?

Yes. The treatment kills what is there now, but open gaps between the shop and flat, and exposed pipes and chases, will allow a new scorpion to enter. Sealing and closing is a core part of the service, not optional.
