Termite control in Uhud Makkah

Uhud is a recently renamed residential scheme north of Al Rashidiyah, between Al Jaranah Road to the west and the Makkah to Taif expressway to the south. Planned plots have scattered houses near Al Qubbah Mosque. Wadi Mudarraja runs along the scheme's eastern edge, and the soil changes from sand to clay because of the wadi. Groundwater sits very shallow near the wadi, so houses close to it receive extra moisture rising from the footings.

  • Targeted, not broadcast

Product goes into cracks and runways, never sprayed across open surfaces.

  • Told before we start

What we will use, where it goes, and what to cover or move before we arrive.

  • A follow-up visit

We return after the first treatment, because what survives it does not show on the day.

  • Homes and businesses

Apartments and villas, and kitchens and stores that need a record of each visit.

Why they keep coming back in Uhud

Wadi Mudarraja raises the groundwater very rapidly after rain, and homes planned on plots close to the wadi sit on very damp footings from the outset. The method is set out in full on the full Termite control page.

The first reason

Wadi Mudarraja raises groundwater under eastern houses

The wadi bounds the scheme to the east, and after seasonal rains the water table rises rapidly. Houses close to the wadi receive very damp footings.

The second reason

Soil changes from sand to clay near the wadi

To the east the soil is clay because of the wadi and its water, and clay traps moisture. To the west the sand drains faster, so moisture is distributed unevenly.

The third reason

The Taif expressway to the south may narrow drainage options

The Makkah to Taif expressway bounds the scheme to the south and may affect how stormwater and groundwater drain, leaving the scheme trapped between the road and wadi.

Uhud sits about 2.5 km from Thaniyah and about 2.5 km from Rashidiyah.

Before treatment

The evidence that decides the treatment

The scheme lies between Al Jaranah Road and the Makkah to Taif expressway north of Al Rashidiyah, with Wadi Mudarraja running along its eastern edge and scattered planned plots.

Narrow mud tubes running up a concrete wall

Mud tubes

Mud tubes here start in the wet clay soil near the wadi, and we trace them to deep colonies.

Discarded transparent wings on a window ledge

Shed wings

Dropped wings appear quickly in homes close to the wadi, especially after rain.

A damaged timber frame showing internal galleries

Hollow timber

Hollow timber appears in footings, columns and floors, and moisture from the wadi keeps wood soft.

A dark damp patch below a pipe at a wall base

The water source

The water source is Wadi Mudarraja, groundwater, seasonal rainfall and clay soil that traps moisture.

Cardboard boxes and timber stacked on a store floor

Cellulose on the floor

Cellulose on the ground includes new footings, floors and furniture. Termites consume it from beneath.

A concrete joint and a pipe passing through a floor slab

Joints and pipe entries

Joints and pipe entries around footings are numerous, and groundwater may rise through them quickly.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and trace

We sound the timber and the skirting, take moisture readings, and follow the tubes to the point where they leave the soil. We also settle the species, because one that lives inside dry wood is not treated like one that lives in the ground.

  2. 2

Treat the soil around the building

A narrow trench at the footing and injection at regular spacing, so the treated band runs continuous with no gap to walk around.

  3. 3

Drill the joints, inject the timber

Small holes at spacing along the slab joints, the wall bases and the pipe entries, direct injection into the galleries inside the affected timber, then the holes are closed and made good.

  4. 4

    Bait stations and monitoring

Stations in the soil carrying a slow-acting material the workers pass through the colony by mouth-to-mouth feeding, and we come back to read them, because an empty tube on a wall proves nothing on its own.

What termite control includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A traced, recorded inspection

Sounding, moisture readings, tubes traced back to the soil, and the species settled before anything is applied.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

A treated band at the perimeter

Trenching and injection at the footing, spaced so the band is continuous rather than a set of patches.

  • A metal floor drain

    Joints and service penetrations

Slab joints, pipe entries and floor drains, which are the ways up through the concrete.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Bait stations in the soil

A slow material carried back through the colony by feeding exchange, rather than stopping the workers at the wall.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Aftercare instructions

What not to dig or water near the treated band, what to keep off the walls, and the ventilation time we set for your case.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    Scheduled monitoring visits

Reading the stations, sounding the same timber again, and treating any new activity.

Landmarks of Uhud

Work in Uhud is organised from Al Jaranah Road and the Makkah to Taif expressway that bound the scheme, and homes are distributed on plots near Al Qubbah Mosque. Inspection runs from the roads through the scattered plots towards Wadi Mudarraja on the eastern edge.

Questions about this district

Are homes close to Wadi Mudarraja more at risk than those in the western plots?

Yes, the wadi raises groundwater, and homes near it receive extra moisture from beneath the footing.

Does the difference between sandy and clay soil affect termite treatment?

Yes, clay holds moisture and water longer, so treatment of eastern footings may need refreshing sooner.

Do floods from Wadi Mudarraja cause additional problems after building?

Yes, floods may reach the footings or inundate gardens and pathways, and trapped moisture increases termite activity.

Is separate treatment of each home enough or must treatment be concurrent?

Each home is treated separately, but homes close to the wadi need more careful monitoring.

Are seasonal rains more dangerous than summer in south Makkah?

Yes, rain raises the groundwater rapidly, giving termites greater chance to enter and multiply quickly.

How often must a home be inspected after first treatment?

Every six months in year one, especially if close to Wadi Mudarraja, then yearly afterward.

How much does termite control in Uhud cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Uhud.
