Water tank sealing in Jabal Al Noor Makkah

Jabal Al Noor is a residential quarter wrapped around the famous mountain and Hira cave north east of the Grand Mosque. Apartment blocks and shops encircle the mountain base along King Faisal Road and Souq Al Arab. Tanks here face constant pressure from visitor and resident demand, and the rocky mountain intensifies heat around tanks as the stone face reflects solar radiation strongly.

  • Potable-rated materials

Linings and disinfectants cleared for drinking water tanks, not general-purpose products.

  • You get the downtime first

How many hours the tank is out of service, told before we start rather than after we finish.

  • A first-draw flush

We run the first draw off after refilling, and the tank is not handed back until the water runs clear.

  • Ground and roof tanks

Villas, apartment blocks and premises that need a written record of each visit.

Why the job is different in Jabal Al Noor

Tanks in older apartment buildings are aged and the district is densely built. Heat from the rocky mountain and direct sun exposure accelerates cracking and leakage. The method is set out in full on Water tank sealing in detail.

The first reason

Intense heat reflection from the rocky mountain

Jabal Al Noor is rocky and high and sunlight bounces off it strongly all day. The stone surface reflects heat directly onto tanks and temperatures reach extreme peaks.

The second reason

Old residential buildings and small tanks

Apartment buildings around the mountain are very old and tanks are small and heavily used. Cracks start at corners and joints because load is high and materials are weak with age.

The third reason

Pressure from visitors, pilgrims and high water demand

Tanks serve residents and a constant stream of pilgrims and tourists. Usage is very high and hot and cold water alternate fast, causing rapid wear on pipes and joints.

What we read before any material is opened

A residential district encircling Jabal Al Noor and its historic cave, with apartment buildings and shops wrapped around the base along King Faisal Road, Souq Al Arab, towards Wadi Jaleel and Al Adl.

A fine crack running through a concrete wall

Cracking in the wall

Fine cracks in corners and the base arise from rapid thermal expansion and contraction between day and night temperature swings.

The junction of a concrete floor and wall inside an empty tank

The floor to wall joint

Joints between walls, base and pipes are very weak because load is high and materials are aged.

A coating flaking away from a concrete surface

The condition of the old lining

Hot and cold water pipes leak at entry and exit points due to rapid alternating expansion and pressure.

Limescale deposits inside a water pipe

Sediment and scale

Internal moisture is high due to heavy use and weak evaporation on very hot days.

Water pipes passing through a concrete wall

The pipe entries

The internal surface is heavily corroded and cracked, the substrate is weak and mineral salt accumulates on walls.

The hatch and the vent

Previous sealing is very weak or absent and cracks beneath old layers continue to leak.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect with the tank empty

We drain it and read the surface dry: whether the water leaves through a crack, a joint or a pipe collar, and what the outer face of the wall and the ceiling below are telling us. A level test with the valves closed separates a leaking tank from leaking pipework.

  2. 2

    Clean and prepare the substrate

Sediment out, a high pressure wash, the loose old lining and the weak surface layer of the concrete taken back, then dried. The material grips sound substrate and nothing else.

  3. 3

Make the cracks and joints good

Cracks are chased out and filled with a repair mortar, a cove is formed where the floor meets the wall, and every pipe collar is treated on its own.

  4. 4

    Lining, fill test, sterilisation

Successive coats, each run across the one beneath it, on the face the water touches. Then a full cure, a fill with the level watched, and sterilisation with the first fill run to waste before the tank returns to use.

What water tank sealing includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    Finding where the water leaves

Carried out drained and dry: cracks, joints, pipe collars and the outer face of the wall.

  • A metal floor drain

    Draining and sediment removal

The last of the water and the settled layer on the floor come out, because a lining does not stick over sediment.

  • A gloved hand applying bait into a joint

    Cracks and joints made good

The crack opened and filled, a cove formed at the floor to wall junction, and each pipe entry worked separately.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

Lining coats on the water face

More than one coat, each crossing the one below, in material made for drinking water tanks rather than roof waterproofing.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Curing, fill test and sterilisation

The material is left to cure, the tank is filled and the level watched, then sterilised and the first fill run to waste. How long the cure takes follows the material and the weather, and we tell you before the date so you can plan around the supply.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    A follow-up level check

We come back once it is in service to read the level and check the outer face, because any remaining loss shows up then rather than on the day of the work.

The character of Jabal Al Noor

Apartment district: residential blocks, repeated floors and shared entrances

A dense residential quarter around a historic landmark means tanks are old and usage is very high. Intense heat from the rocky mountain increases erosion and expansion rates, so sealing must protect against both extreme heat and high pressure.

Questions about this district

Does heat reflection from the rocky mountain cause faster cracking than other areas?

Yes. The rocky mountain bounces strong sunlight and temperatures reach extremes. The daily swing from extreme heat to cool nights causes fast expansion and contraction and cracks grow quickly.

Why do small tanks in old buildings leak more?

Small tanks cannot withstand high pressure and heavy use. Materials are old and leaks start from fine cracks in weak corner seams.

Does hot water use accelerate tank corrosion?

Yes. Hot water speeds chemical erosion and expansion. Pipes and joints are especially affected and leaks often start at the hot water inlet.

Can we seal a tank without stopping service?

No. Sealing requires complete emptying and cleaning. In dense residential areas the best approach is sealing in the evening or choosing a low-demand window.

Do visitors and pilgrims increase water load and tank pressure?

Yes. High visitor numbers increase usage and hot and cold water cycles run fast. Pressure and air spaces in the tank change rapidly causing cracks and leaks.

Is internal sealing alone enough for tanks around a hot rocky mountain?

No. Both inside and outside must be sealed. Extreme external heat requires external protection or cracks will recur quickly.

How much does water tank sealing in Jabal Al Noor cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Jabal Al Noor.
