Water tank sterilization in Al Firdaws Jeddah

Al Firdaws is a mixed district of villas, apartment buildings and new residential subdivisions spread between Madinah Road and Prince Abdulmajeed Road. Tanks here vary widely in age and size, from old tanks in older villas to new tanks in newer developments. Water arrives from the municipal network and tanks accumulate sediment and algae, especially during the long summer season.

  • Potable-rated materials

Linings and disinfectants cleared for drinking water tanks, not general-purpose products.

  • You get the downtime first

How many hours the tank is out of service, told before we start rather than after we finish.

  • A first-draw flush

We run the first draw off after refilling, and the tank is not handed back until the water runs clear.

  • Ground and roof tanks

Villas, apartment blocks and premises that need a written record of each visit.

Why the job is different in Al Firdaws

Villas and apartment buildings in the district rely on ground and elevated tanks, and ground tanks here are vulnerable to soil contamination and high groundwater moisture. The method is set out in full on our Water tank sterilization service.

The first reason

Ground tanks beneath older villas

The oldest villas in Al Firdaws were built 20-30 years ago and their ground tanks have not been cleaned regularly. Brown sediment and algae accumulate on floors and walls, and water arrives with visible colour and taste.

The second reason

Elevated tanks in new apartment buildings

New subdivisions and buildings hold large elevated metal or concrete tanks. The sun heats these tanks and moisture and debris grow quickly. Green algae appears on tank walls from outside.

The third reason

The gap between municipal supply and tank storage

Water from the public network may carry sediment and turbidity, which tanks collect. The long summer season puts pressure on the network and weak water flow encourages slow tank contamination.

The character of Al Firdaws

Mixed district: shops at street level with homes above them

Al Firdaws is mixed, holding old villas, new buildings and new subdivisions, meaning tanks of very different ages and sizes. Old villas need deeper treatment of old weak ground tanks, while new subdivisions have larger tanks requiring stronger equipment and longer suction and pressure lines.

Before treatment

What we read inside the tank before anything starts

A mixed residential quarter north of Al Balad, located between Madinah Road and Prince Abdulmajeed Road. It is bordered by Al Sawari to the east and Al Shira to the west, running through Prince Nayef Street.

Fine wet sand seen close up

Sediment on the floor

Brown and clay sediments accumulate on ground and elevated tank floors, coming from weak network water and minerals in the supply.

A concrete wall carrying a damp green layer

The slime film on the wall

Green and white algae grow on elevated tank walls exposed to sun and moisture, especially during the long summer season.

A plastic water tank standing on a rooftop

Light and heat

Cloudy water on first opening signals long-term neglect of tank cleaning, and turbidity comes from floor and wall sediment.

A concrete surface carrying fine cracks

The lining and any cracking

High groundwater moisture in Al Firdaws causes ground tank leaks, and water from soil enters the tank and contaminates it with germs.

A metal cover over a water tank opening

The lid and the openings

Foul or changed odours signal anaerobic bacterial growth in the tank, which occurs when water sits stagnant for long periods.

What shows up at the tap

Water lines from tank to taps need suction and high-pressure washing to remove sediment and bacteria, done after tank sterilization itself.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and record the condition

We open the hatch and work through what the tank is made of and how big it is, how deep the sediment lies, the state of the lining, whether the lid and the overflow seal, and whether there is a crack that has to be repaired before any sterilizing.

  2. 2

Drain and lift the sediment out

The water goes out, then the silt and sand are lifted off the floor by suction rather than pushed toward the outlet, because pushing them sends them into the house pipework and the heater.

  3. 3

    High pressure wash

Walls, floor, corners and the area around the outlet, until the slime film is completely gone. This is the step that makes the sterilizing after it mean anything.

  4. 4

Sterilize, rinse, then return to service

The sterilizing agent goes onto the walls, the floor and the underside of the lid and is left for its contact time, then we rinse, refill and run the furthest tap until the whole line is clear.

What water tank sterilization includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Material, capacity, sediment depth, the state of the lining, the lid and the overflow, all before any work begins.

  • A metal floor drain

    Draining and sediment removal

The water out, and the silt and sand lifted off the floor instead of being pushed into the outlet and the house pipework.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    High pressure washing

Walls, corners and around the outlet, until the biofilm that no disinfectant penetrates has gone.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Sterilizing the internal surfaces

A sterilizing agent meant for drinking water tanks, applied to the walls, the floor and the underside of the lid, and left for its contact time.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Line flush and aftercare

Rinse, refill and a flush from the furthest tap, when the water is usable again, and what to change in the filter afterwards.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    The next cycle

We agree the right interval for your tank from how it is filled, how much sun it takes and the condition of the lid.

What is different about Dhahban Sub-Municipality

Dhahban sub municipality is the northern coastal strip of Jeddah, running from the north bank of Sharm Obhur up to the old village of Dhahban and Salman Bay. Its districts are recently built, with owner occupied villas and apartments, beach resorts and chalets on the shore, and land subdivisions still being developed. Nearness to the sea keeps humidity high all year, irrigated lawns in villas, resorts and district parks hold water, Wadi Obhur and the vacant plots between buildings give rodents and reptiles shelter, and the old fishing village of Dhahban gives the far north a rural edge.

Questions about this district

Are ground tanks in Al Firdaws more dangerous than elevated ones?

Ground tanks are more exposed to soil, groundwater and insect infiltration. Elevated tanks are easier to clean but prone to algae growth if transparent or old.

How often should a tank be sterilized in Al Firdaws per year?

At least twice, once before summer and once after. The long summer here accelerates algae and bacterial growth, so regular sterilization is essential.

Are brown sediments at the tank floor dangerous?

Yes. Sediments hold minerals, bacteria and decomposed algae. If they build up, they contaminate water and make it unfit to drink.

Does weak supply pressure from the network cause tank contamination?

Yes. Weak water pressure allows air and germs to enter the tank. Jeddah's network faces summer pressure drops, and tanks capture this weakness.

Does tank type affect sterilization method?

Yes. Ground tanks need careful inspection for cracks and leaks before sterilization. Elevated tanks are easier but air vents must be protected.

Does sterilization stop green algae growing on the tank exterior?

Interior sterilization does not affect the outside. But internally clean tanks improve water quality reaching the surface, and exterior wall cleaning prevents algae spread.

How much does water tank sterilization in Al Firdaws cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Firdaws.
