Questions about this district

My flat is above a shop on the Khalidiyah souq. Does that change the treatment?

Yes. The shop or restaurant below you is a constant food source, and the cockroach travels up through drain pipes and ceiling voids. We treat the crossing points in your kitchen and bathroom and seal the pipe gaps, because spraying alone cannot stop a steady arrival from downstairs.

I live in a compound. Do the neighbouring units need treating too?

Usually yes. Compound units share walls and drain lines, so if only your unit is treated the cockroach can move back through the pipework from a neighbour. It is better to treat the shared route, and we explain what needs coordinating with the other units.

Does the humidity off the Corniche make the problem worse here?

Yes, clearly. The district's closeness to the sea raises humidity, and a cockroach needs water more than food. High humidity speeds up its breeding and keeps its hiding places damp, so we treat the moisture sources and condensation points under the sink and in the bathroom first.

I have a villa with a garden and irrigation. Where do they come from?

We inspect the external drain and the garden edge and seal the entry points before it reaches inside the villa.

A large roach comes out of the bathroom drain at night. Why?

That is the American cockroach, climbing up from the drainage network and inspection chambers in search of water, and it is active at night. The high ground water near the Corniche encourages it. We treat the drain and fit what blocks its climb, and drying the basin after use cuts off its water.

I moved furniture into a new unit. Can cockroaches arrive with it?

Yes. The German cockroach and its eggs travel inside second-hand furniture, boxes and appliances, which is common when moving into Khalidiyah's compounds. We check the joints, drawers and the backs of appliances, and it is best to inspect any used item before bringing it into the new unit.
