What a preventive visit reads

Ajyad sits directly south of the Grand Mosque courtyards, with tall hotels and residential blocks along Ajyad Street and Ibrahim Al Khalil Street, hemmed in to the south east by the slopes of Jabal Khandamah. Its buildings are ageing and drainage networks are old.

Gaps around pipes and openings on the hotel front and storerooms must be sealed because insects enter from the narrow street.

The baseline survey

We walk the outside boundary and then the inside: gaps under doors, pipe runs, vents, condensate lines, drains, the bin area and the store, and we fix the monitoring points before anything is applied.

Close the routes

Mesh on the vents, the gap under the door dealt with, the sleeve around a pipe run closed, and water put back into the drain nobody uses. Exclusion saves a spray that would otherwise repeat forever.

The band and the placed product

A residual band at the base of the wall outside and around door and window openings, with placed product inside joints and closed voids where it is warranted, and no open spray across living surfaces.

The scheduled visit: read, renew, record

We read the points to see which side is under pressure, renew the band where sun or irrigation has taken it, aim the visit at what the coming season opens up, and write down what was found and what was used.

Entry points, moisture sources and storage, recorded before anything is applied and revisited each time.

Ajyad sub municipality takes in the districts that press against the Grand Mosque from the south and west: Ajyad, Al Hajlah, Al Shubaikah, Al Tandabawi and Al Mansour. Hotels and rented apartment blocks for Umrah visitors stack up along Ajyad Street and Ibrahim Al Khalil Street, with kitchens and restaurants running aday and night in season. Behind them, Al Shubaikah and Al Tandabawi keep narrow old lanes on hillside ground where buildings and drains are ageing, and demolition and construction sites are a constant presence around Jabal Omar and the central zone.

Questions about this district

The hotel hosts many Umrah visitors from different countries. How do we protect it from insects they might carry?

The programme includes inspecting guest rooms after each occupant leaves, treating furniture and wall cavities, and monitoring communal areas and restaurants every day.

The hotel kitchen runs long hours. Does the preventive programme fully cover it?

Yes, the programme covers kitchens, food stores and service areas. Monitoring focuses on gaps around equipment, pipes and damp corners.

The district is very crowded in Hajj season and quiet otherwise. Does the spray programme change between seasons?

Yes, the programme adapts. In Hajj season monitoring increases and visits may be weekly. Outside season they may be fortnightly or monthly.

Is preventive spraying safe in hotels hosting families, children and pregnant women?

Yes, products are safe in occupied spaces even with children present. The programme sprays gaps and openings only, never open areas.

The hotel was closed for weeks. Do we start a new programme when it opens?

Yes, after a long closure a full inspection is needed before guests arrive. Insects may have entered during closure.
