Water tank sterilization in Al Nuzhah Makkah

Al Nuzhah is a mixed quarter at the western edge of the Al Utaybiyah municipal zone, holding apartment buildings, villas and traditional housing alongside varied tank sizes and ages. Small villa tanks and large building tanks may foul differently. Sterilization requires assessing each tank on its own merits because conditions vary widely.

  • Potable-rated materials

Linings and disinfectants cleared for drinking water tanks, not general-purpose products.

  • You get the downtime first

How many hours the tank is out of service, told before we start rather than after we finish.

  • A first-draw flush

We run the first draw off after refilling, and the tank is not handed back until the water runs clear.

  • Ground and roof tanks

Villas, apartment blocks and premises that need a written record of each visit.

Why the job is different in Al Nuzhah

The quarter holds mid-rise apartment buildings, villas, small gardens and mixed housing, with tanks ranging from new apartment systems to old rusted villa tanks. The method is set out in full on what Water tank sterilization involves.

The first reason

Villas with small aged tanks

Villa tanks here are small and mounted on low roofs, many very old and heavily rusted. Consumption is low and water sits for long periods in the small tank.

The second reason

Apartments with large shared tanks

Apartment blocks have large shared tanks on high roofs surrounded by adjoining structures and exposed to windblown dust and air pollution. Consumption is higher but tanks may still be old.

The third reason

Mixed character complicates the problem

The quarter mixes villas, apartments and traditional housing, so tanks vary in size, material and age. Some are modern concrete, others are old rusted metal.

The character of Al Nuzhah

Mixed district: shops at street level with homes above them

A mixed quarter with villas, apartments and varied housing means tank types, sizes and ages are very different. Old villa tanks need patient handling and rusted metal requires light sanding and rust-proofing. Modern apartment tanks need higher pressure.

Before treatment

What we read inside the tank before anything starts

A mixed quarter at the western end of the Al Utaybiyah sub-municipality, next to Al Zahra and Ar Rusayfah, with the old Makkah road and As Salamah on the north, serving apartments, villas, shops, government offices and the old Al Hawas Mosque.

Fine wet sand seen close up

Sediment on the floor

Mineral deposits settle in small static tanks much faster than in large circulating ones.

A concrete wall carrying a damp green layer

The slime film on the wall

Biofilm grows on walls of light-exposed tanks, especially in villas with low consumption.

A plastic water tank standing on a rooftop

Light and heat

Mixed pipework from villas and apartments may carry diverse contamination depending on supply source.

A concrete surface carrying fine cracks

The lining and any cracking

Low consumption in villas means longer water sitting time and faster biological growth during idle hours.

A metal cover over a water tank opening

The lid and the openings

Rusted metal and old tanks provide a rough surface where deposits and bacteria adhere more easily.

A glass of water on a kitchen counter

What shows up at the tap

Dust and air pollution from ongoing construction in the mixed quarter settles on exposed tank surfaces.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and record the condition

We open the hatch and work through what the tank is made of and how big it is, how deep the sediment lies, the state of the lining, whether the lid and the overflow seal, and whether there is a crack that has to be repaired before any sterilizing.

  2. 2

Drain and lift the sediment out

The water goes out, then the silt and sand are lifted off the floor by suction rather than pushed toward the outlet, because pushing them sends them into the house pipework and the heater.

  3. 3

    High pressure wash

Walls, floor, corners and the area around the outlet, until the slime film is completely gone. This is the step that makes the sterilizing after it mean anything.

  4. 4

Sterilize, rinse, then return to service

The sterilizing agent goes onto the walls, the floor and the underside of the lid and is left for its contact time, then we rinse, refill and run the furthest tap until the whole line is clear.

What water tank sterilization includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Material, capacity, sediment depth, the state of the lining, the lid and the overflow, all before any work begins.

  • A metal floor drain

    Draining and sediment removal

The water out, and the silt and sand lifted off the floor instead of being pushed into the outlet and the house pipework.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    High pressure washing

Walls, corners and around the outlet, until the biofilm that no disinfectant penetrates has gone.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Sterilizing the internal surfaces

A sterilizing agent meant for drinking water tanks, applied to the walls, the floor and the underside of the lid, and left for its contact time.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Line flush and aftercare

Rinse, refill and a flush from the furthest tap, when the water is usable again, and what to change in the filter afterwards.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    The next cycle

We agree the right interval for your tank from how it is filled, how much sun it takes and the condition of the lid.

What is different about Al Utaybiyah Sub-Municipality

Al Utaybiyah sub municipality covers the old districts north of the Grand Mosque: the hillside quarters of Al Hajun, Al Utaybiyah and Al Bayban, Al Zahir and Al Shuhada at the northern entrance, and the newer Al Zahra, Al Diyafah and An Nuzhah westward. Its building stock is among the oldest in Makkah, stone houses on the hills, packed apartment blocks and sewers decades old, threaded with crowded markets like the Utaybiyah souq and furnished flats that fill in the pilgrim seasons. Wadi Al Zahir and Wadi Al Tanim carry storm water through it, and industrial workshops line Hajj Street.

Questions about this district

Is a small villa tank easier or harder to sterilize?

Easier to access and scrub, but standing water fouls quickly. Villas may need more frequent sterilization.

Do old metal tanks need different treatment than concrete?

Yes. Rusted metal may need light sanding and extra corrosion protection after sterilization.

Does a mixed quarter make sterilization more complex?

Yes. Tanks vary in size, material, age and location. Each needs separate inspection and assessment.

Does dust and air pollution affect exposed tanks?

Very much. Tanks surrounded by multiple roofs and ongoing construction suffer from dust and airborne contamination.

Do villas and apartments consume water the same way?

No. Villas consume little and water may sit for hours. Apartments consume heavily and water moves fast.

Do we need different sterilization for large and small tanks?

Yes. Small tanks need frequent sterilization and large tanks may need higher pressure to scrub deep sediment zones.

How much does water tank sterilization in Al Nuzhah cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Nuzhah.
