Water tank sterilization in Al Adl Makkah

Al Adl is an eastward urban extension along King Faisal Road and the fourth ring road, with residential buildings, hotels and pilgrim housing. Tanks here serve a large mix of temporary and permanent residents, and water demand swings rapidly by season. Water from the mains travels through long pipe runs from the centre, and sediment may accumulate faster here.

  • Potable-rated materials

Linings and disinfectants cleared for drinking water tanks, not general-purpose products.

  • You get the downtime first

How many hours the tank is out of service, told before we start rather than after we finish.

  • A first-draw flush

We run the first draw off after refilling, and the tank is not handed back until the water runs clear.

  • Ground and roof tanks

Villas, apartment blocks and premises that need a written record of each visit.

Why the job is different in Al Adl

Buildings here are relatively modern and tanks are in good condition, but water demand from temporary residents, tourists and pilgrims is irregular and seasonal, causing repeated swings in water level and sediment disturbance. The method is set out in full on our Water tank sterilization service.

The first reason

Long pipe runs from the central distribution station

Water reaches Al Adl through long pipes from the central distribution hub. The long distance allows more sediment to settle within the pipes themselves. Water may reach the tank particle-laden.

The second reason

Hotels and pilgrim housing are seasonal

Hotels and pilgrim housing fill and empty by season very rapidly. This stirs sediment in tanks and pipes and causes repeated turbidity.

The third reason

High population density and mixed consumption patterns

Apartments, hotels and pilgrim housing together provide high and variable consumption. At some times use is light and water sits in the tank; at others it drains fast.

What we read inside the tank before anything starts

An eastward urban extension along King Faisal Road and the fourth ring road, bounded by Jabal Al Noor to the north, Al Rawdah to the south and the holy sites to the east. It contains apartment buildings, hotels, pilgrim housing and government offices.

Fine wet sand seen close up

Sediment on the floor

Sand and clay sediment from long pipe runs enters the tank at high concentration, especially during periods of low consumption.

A concrete wall carrying a damp green layer

The slime film on the wall

Mains water carrying residue from hundreds of residents, guests and pilgrims holds varied mineral and organic deposits, and biofilm forms rapidly.

A plastic water tank standing on a rooftop

Light and heat

Internal pipes in apartments and hotels may be new, but horizontal distribution pipes in foundations may carry rust and scale deposits.

A concrete surface carrying fine cracks

The lining and any cracking

Humidity, heat and repeated demand provide ideal conditions for bacterial and algal growth, especially in tanks that fill and drain rapidly.

A metal cover over a water tank opening

The lid and the openings

Biofilm builds on tank walls and base, and sediment concentration accelerates algae and live layer formation.

What shows up at the tap

Bacterial activity peaks before and after the Hajj and Umra seasons, requiring intensive sterilization before and after to maintain water safety.

How we work

  1. 1

    Inspect and record the condition

We open the hatch and work through what the tank is made of and how big it is, how deep the sediment lies, the state of the lining, whether the lid and the overflow seal, and whether there is a crack that has to be repaired before any sterilizing.

  2. 2

Drain and lift the sediment out

The water goes out, then the silt and sand are lifted off the floor by suction rather than pushed toward the outlet, because pushing them sends them into the house pipework and the heater.

  3. 3

    High pressure wash

Walls, floor, corners and the area around the outlet, until the slime film is completely gone. This is the step that makes the sterilizing after it mean anything.

  4. 4

Sterilize, rinse, then return to service

The sterilizing agent goes onto the walls, the floor and the underside of the lid and is left for its contact time, then we rinse, refill and run the furthest tap until the whole line is clear.

What water tank sterilization includes

  • A technician inspecting with a flashlight

    A recorded inspection

Material, capacity, sediment depth, the state of the lining, the lid and the overflow, all before any work begins.

  • A metal floor drain

    Draining and sediment removal

The water out, and the silt and sand lifted off the floor instead of being pushed into the outlet and the house pipework.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    High pressure washing

Walls, corners and around the outlet, until the biofilm that no disinfectant penetrates has gone.

  • A spray nozzle in close detail

    Sterilizing the internal surfaces

A sterilizing agent meant for drinking water tanks, applied to the walls, the floor and the underside of the lid, and left for its contact time.

  • A clean kitchen counter after treatment

    Line flush and aftercare

Rinse, refill and a flush from the furthest tap, when the water is usable again, and what to change in the filter afterwards.

  • The visit report being written on a clipboard

    The next cycle

We agree the right interval for your tank from how it is filled, how much sun it takes and the condition of the lid.

The character of Al Adl

Apartment district: residential blocks, repeated floors and shared entrances

A medium-density residential zone with hotels and pilgrim housing means tanks endure variable and rapid seasonal consumption pressure. Buildings are relatively modern and internal pipes are good, but the main network is distant and connecting pipes are long, so current sediment from the mains requires more frequent cleaning than areas closer to the source.

Questions about this district

Why might water in Al Adl be murkier than in other areas?

Long pipe runs from the distribution centre allow more sediment to settle in the pipes. Water travels far before reaching the tank.

Do hotels and pilgrim housing cause special tank problems?

Yes. Fast filling and draining stirs sediment and sand at the base. Cleaning after the Hajj season is essential.

How do I know if a tank needs urgent cleaning?

If you notice turbidity, odd smell or slight discoloration, cleaning should not be delayed. Sediment may clog individual pipes.

Does cleaning the tank after Hajj protect water for the whole year?

No, cleaning only removes current sediment. Fresh water may carry new deposits. Regular sterilization every six months is better.

Do new tanks in Al Adl need less sterilization?

New tanks may be cleaner but mains pipes and distribution lines may feed them sediment. Initial sterilization after install is necessary.

What if there are multiple tanks in one building?

Each tank needs separate cleaning and sterilization. If tanks are linked in one system, focus on the main tank first.

How much does water tank sterilization in Al Adl cost?

It is set after the inspection, because the price follows the type of infestation, the size of the space, how far it has spread and the number of visits it needs. Send a photo and a description on WhatsApp and we will give you an estimate before we reach Al Adl.
